Commitment To Safety Letter

Automotive Industry Emphasizes Its Commitment to Safety

In today’s rapidly changing global automotive industry, technical proficiency and leadership are essential elements of health and safety. As vehicle components increasingly become electric, electronic, and automated; the level of manufacturing automation continues to increase; and artificial intelligence becomes more mainstream in manufacturing and logistics environments, suppliers of all sizes need to proactively identify OHSE hazards and reduce associated risks.

The OHSE risks currently addressed by the traditional elements of life safety (e.g., energy control, working at heights, confined space entry) and occupational health (e.g., ergonomic risks, inhalation exposures) must continue to evolve – specifically to address the OHSE risks associated with the increasing numbers and sophistication of stored energy and a growing range of emerging manufacturing, logistics and component technologies.

Presently, AIAG is collaborating with occupational health, safety and environmental (OHSE) professionals from automotive OEMs and suppliers to create programs and trainings that will assist suppliers of all sizes throughout the global supply chain. Newly forming teams at AIAG will focus on manufacturing OHSE and OHSE leadership and culture to improve the OHSE for their respective employees, and subsequently family members and retirees.

Joining us in our dedication to health and safety, OEM VPs from FCA, Ford, GM, Honda, Nissan and Toyota have also released a “Commitment to Safety” letter, which asks the following:

  • AIAG member companies – both OEMs and suppliers – to share programs and best practices.
  • OHSE professionals to participate in AIAG’s Health & Safety Work Group and subcommittees.
