Contractor Safety

With contractors typically engaged in high-risk, non-standard work – the kind that causes roughly 40-60 percent of serious workplace injuries and fatalities – contractor safety is a vital element of any organization’s health and safety (H&S) program.

AIAG’s new Contractor Safety Management Framework provides information and support for organizations throughout the supply chain, referencing programs, examples, training and industry best practices from a range of AIAG member companies.

Created in collaboration with automakers (OEMs), suppliers and contractors, the framework outlines common processes for effective contractor safety management, facilitating more consistent H&S requirements for contractors among hiring clients or owners. It can also be used within any health and safety management system (e.g., ISO 45001, OHSAS 18001, ANSI Z10).

From defining core safety contractor management requirements to providing guidance to hiring clients or owners on pre-qualifying contractors and tracking their safety performance data, this new document provides a benchmark for companies of all sizes to adapt to their unique needs.
